Until the fall semester of 2015, POPS the Club was a single club at Venice High School—with big dreams and even bigger plans to expand to schools across California and the rest of the country. Thanks to the tireless work of our tiny but mighty staff, the dedication and devotion of our Board of Directors, and oceans of generosity from volunteers and individual donors, we have expanded to six schools in southern California (with three more soon to launch), two in northern California, one in Pennsylvania, and more clubs launching nearly every month.
Our students have spoken at conferences and on panels; they twice visited President Obama’s White House and the California state legislature; they have published in numerous magazines and have performed on stages at Beyond Baroque in Venice, The Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City, and Barnes & Noble at the Grove.
On March 21, USC’s ED Month is featuring POPS the Club students reading from our fourth anthology, Cracked Masks at the campus’s Ground Zero Performance Center, from 7 to 9 p.m., and on September 10, POPS will be holding our annual fundraising gala, featuring stories and artwork and performances at The Moss Theater in Santa Monica.
POPS has been honored this year to be partnered with the multi-talented performers of Ammunition Theatre. Karla Mosley, Bernardo Cubria and Vinny Chhibber will be producing our event at The Moss, featuring the actors of Ammunition Theatre reading POPS students’ work. Stay tuned for more.
We are especially grateful to our generous funders who make our work possible—to every individual donation and to our Foundation partners.
