Dennis Danziger (Co-Founder) has taught English and Sports Literature in the Los Angeles Unified School District for 21 years. He is the author of Daddy, The Diary of an Expectant Father and a novel, A Short History of a Tall Jew. His essays on education have been appeared in Huffington Post and the Good Men Project. In collaboration with PEN USA's Pen in the Classroom Program he and Amy have shepherded over 500 students to publish their first essay in PEN anthologies. He regularly defeats his students in three-point shooting contests.
Amy Friedman (Co-Founder) is an author and creative writing teacher. Her third memoir Desperado's Wife tells the story of her marriage to a man in prison and her struggles to endure and conquer the hardships of incarceration. Although Amy's marriage to her ex-husband dissolved after seven years, her desire to lift the shame and sorrow of those coping with the long reach of prison's tentacles never waned. When she and Dennis Danziger married in 2002, and as they began to discover how those tentacles entrapped so many of Dennis's students, the idea for POPS began to emerge.
